Dignitaries from around the world have graced the final funeral ceremony of the CEO, Access Holding Group, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife, Mrs. Chizoba, and their son, Chizi at Redeemed Christian Church of God, Isiokpo, in Ikwerre, Rivers State over the weekend.
Recalled that Wigwe was accompanied by his wife and son, along with Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), found themselves involved in a chopper crash, California, USA on February 9.
It was further explained that they were heading for Las Vegas to watch Super Bowl, the annual league championship game of the National Football League (NFL) of the United States before the unfortunate incident that took their lives.
Among the dignitaries at the event is the Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote; former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Also at the burial event was the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Abia Governor, Alex Otti and some top government officials.
Sanwo-Olu said on X, “We gathered to pay our respects, sharing heartfelt eulogies and offering support and solace to the Wigwe’s family during this difficult time. Though the pain of loss remains, the memories we hold dear of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and their son will always keep their spirit alive in our hearts”.
Dapo Abiodun in his reaction on X said, “With hearts burdened by grief and sadness, we convey our final goodbyes. May benevolent Lord safeguard and console their children, family, relatives, friends, and acquaintances, granting each of us the resilience to endure and navigate through the anguish caused by this unfortunate tragedy”.
Rivers Governor, Fubara in his words said an evening of reflections, remembrance and a celebration of the life of the late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe. “The event reminisced on the very essence of life that leave positive impact on humanity, which is the ultimate legacy for anyone”.
The Governor added that the death of Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son is a painful loss, but his enduring legacy will continue to comfort the people and keep them fresh in their memories.
Peter Obi prayed, “May God who it pleased to call them home at this time, in this sad and tragic manner, grant them eternal rest and their families, and all of us who mourn them, the fortitude to bear this sorrowful and irreplaceable loss.
On X, Obi said, “My family and I will remain in earnest prayers for their immediate families, that God will comfort them. I pray that all the projects they started, including the Wigwe University, will become exemplary and benefit the nation”.
