The United States has called for investigation over the alleged abuse, torture of United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) staff who are detained by the Israeli Defense Force in Gaza.

In a Press Briefing on Wednesday, the States Department Spokesman, Mathew Miller who made the call, said United States is deeply concerned by these reports and will continue to press and engage directly with its Israeli partners on the need for a full investigation into these allegations, and accountability for any perpetrators.

According to him, “But broadly, though, we will continue to call on all parties in the middle east region, and call on Israel to do more to protect humanitarian aid workers, to improve deconfliction mechanisms, and to pursue full accountability for incidents of harm against aid workers.

An unpublished United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) report claims that some Palestinians detained from Gaza were subjected to various kinds of torture and abuse by Israeli occupation forces.

It added that some of them were also forced to make false confessions about raping Israeli women and their links with Hamas. According to the report reviewed by Reuters and other news agencies, stating that staff members were pressured to make false statements being involved in Operation Al- Aqsa Flood attacks on October 7 inside Israel.

It stated further that these UNRWA workers have claimed that they were severely beaten up and waterboarded and were threatened that their family members would be harmed.

The report recorded the testimonies of Palestinian detainees from Gaza who claimed they were tortured by the Israeli forces during their detention.
