Leaders have began to celebrate the victory of Argentina who won the 2022 World Cup final against France, beating the defending champion during a penalty kick shootout after the teams reached full time with a 3-3 tie on Sunday in Qatar.

Argentina scored four of the penalty kicks to France’s two, making it 2 to nothing against France.

The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken took to his social media platform saying “a tough loss for Les Bleus of France, but the world couldn’t have asked for a better, harder-fought match in what was truly a beautiful game.

Blinken who congratulated Argentina and the world player, Lionel Messi for the crowning achievement, added that he is already looking forward to cheering on the home team in 2026.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau also took to his social media platform celebrating Argentina for being victorious at the World Cup final in Qatar on Sunday.

The Prime Minister saId, “Congratulations, Argentina! The 2022 World Cup has come to an end, but let’s keep the excitement going – the World Cup is coming to Canada, the United States, and Mexico in 2026. We’re looking forward to hosting the tournament with our North American friends”.

Also, the Kenyan President, William Ruto sent his congratulatory messages through his social media platform to the victorious Argentina for defeating France at the World Cup final in Qatar on Sunday.

He said, “Congratulations Argentina for winning the world Cup. My African team at world Cup played a superb game. Will pay my bet!!! All round wonderful game. Tukutane home”.

Meanwhile, Argentina started off strong in Sunday’s match, and had gained a 2-0 lead over France by half-time. Both Messi and Angel Di Maria scored goals during the first half of the game, with Messi scoring on a 23rd-minute penalty kick after a foul on Di Maria.

Thirteen minutes later, Di Maria scored after finishing off a five-pass team move involving a deft flick from Messi. France’s Kylian Mbappé scored his team’s first goal in the 71st minute, and quickly followed up with another.

The anticipated match marked Lionel Messi’s last World Cup game, as the popular Argentinian athlete announced after his team’s win against Croatia in last week’s semi-finals.

After their win at the final, Messi was awarded the coveted Golden Ball, a prize given to the tournament’s best player. He is now the only player in the history of the World Cup games to receive the Golden Ball twice.
