The Soroptimist International Asokoro has installed Mrs Nkiru Onyia as the 3th President of the association which was held at the National Press Centre, Abuja on Sunday.
The event entertained dignitaries from around Abuja and its environs, also in attendance is the Royal father of the Day, High Chief, Sir Dr Egbuna Okechi, the Royal Mother of the Day, Chief (Mrs) Rufina Suleiman (Kpakpando), the Chairman of the Occasion, Eneh Chidozie Paul among others.
Onyia, while giving her acceptance speech said she is honored to be President of Sl Asokoro, pleased to express her gratitude to Best Sisters in general and Asokoro in particular for spotting the qualities in her that counted her worthy to be elected in leading this noble association of the esteem ladies for the next two years (2022-2024).
Nkiru Onyia who gladly accepted the position, highlighted projects to be executed by her administration: To key into National President’s projects and work together on projects that will better the lives of women and girls.
“To embark on Campaign for good health and well being of girl and quality education and to organise health talk with students centered on health awareness, general hygiene, sign and symptoms of illness, drug and Alcohol abuse, bully and oral care of girl health.
The new President called on her friends, brothers, sisters, colleagues to support the association in this humanitarian activities in order to actualize her dream and promote the good health of women and girls child, while prayed for abundant blessing as they do so.
According to her, “Note that we are called to serve, let us all stand up to serve. To my Best Sisters, like I informed you earlier, I am looking forward to have a tenure where we shall use the “F” words a lot. I challenge you to help us do this and I can guarantee you that we will achieve our goals for the tenure.
“What does this “F” words consist?
“F” for Fundraising, “F” for Foundation, “F” for Fun, “F” for Family, Friendship and Fitness”. We will ensure to educate and to empower the women and girls in the society to make them comfortable and see that we always put smile on their faces”, Onyie said.
The President appreciated everyone that was present for this installation from special invited guests to well wishers and to her husband, Arinze Onyia who has been supportive, standing by her to take up this challenges and as she attained all her professional career.
In her speech, the Immediate Past President, Regina Agwuda Ochube gave thanks to God for seeing her through her two year tenure despite confronted with the anomalies generated by the hostile ambience created by Covid-19, the pandemic that brought the world to standstill.
According to her, “the commencement of my tenure was greeted and ravaged by the arrival and the presence of COVID which denied us of our normal lifestyle and restricted everyone and removed normalcy which also controlled and restricted everything we and our activities.
“May I also use this medium to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to be part of service to this great club, it has not been all rosy and smooth, forgive me of all my shortcomings, I claims no perfection and remain fallible”, she said.
Ochube urged the new President to take the wheel of Soroptimist International Asokoro to build on the solid foundation that has already been laid and established by the help of God and the late mentor, Charter President and Executives and indeed the entire members.
“The continuation of the whole humanitarian was enormous and overwhelming but God helped us to withered the storm. Continue the good work we were to do, keep the flag flying, learn from our mistakes and continue to lead the members to the right path as you take the club to the Zenith”.
The National President of Soroptimist International Nigeria, Gloria Iveren Bai said the newly installed President of SI Asokoro, Nkiru Onyia is expected to uphold the “3E” projects which is to enable, to educate and to empower women and girls in the society knowing the challenges women are facing like gender-based violence, rape and kidnapping etc.
She tasked the President not to leave any stone unturned, advised her to reach out to members of the society, community, Organizations, individual, philanthropic that can help her in fulfilling her mandate and to achieve her goal on the basic of the projects she has lined up to execute.
The newly installed President of Soroptimist International Asokoro, Dr Nkiru Onyia is currently working with Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), a well experienced Accountant, Forensic Auditor, Tax Auditing Consultant and Fraud Investigator.
She has worked in Tax Audit and Investigation for over 17 years and risen to the position of Senior Manager (Tax) and presently serving in Investigation Department of the Organisation.
