The Nigerian Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and other world leaders have arrived in London for the State Funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom.
Osinbajo will be representing Nigeria at a number of events today and on Monday, joining members of Royal Family, world leaders including members of the Commonwealth, Heads of State, Governors-General, Prime Ministers, and foreign royal families.
In a statement released by the VP’s aide, Laolu Akande on Saturday as the ceremonies which includes the funeral service scheduled to hold at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
Ahead of the service, Vice President will be among guests and dignitaries to be received by King Charles lll and Queen Consort Camilla, at reception in Buckingham Palace, today Sunday.
United States President, Joe Biden also arrived in London late Saturday for a two-day visit honoring Queen Elizabeth II, long-reigning monarch he says “defined an era.”
Biden is joining leaders from dozens of other nations to pay their respects to the late sovereign, whom he met last year and declared afterward reminded him of his own mother.
According to CNN, today Sunday afternoon, the President and first lady Jill Biden will pay their respects to the Queen, whose coffin has been lying in state at Westminster Hall, before signing a book of condolence and attending a reception for visiting leaders hosted by Britain’s new king, Charles III.
For Biden, it is a moment to reflect on a monarch who embodied a commitment to public service and whose life charted the major historical events of the last 100 years.
South African President, His Excellency, Cyril Ramaphosa arrived at London Standted Airport and was received by High Commissioner Mamabolo and British Senior Government representatives.
This was disclosed by the Presidency as Ramaphosa who just concluded his working visit to United States of America to meet with US President on bilateral relations, took Washington DC to London for the State Funeral of the Queen.
Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau also said he will joining people from around the world to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and pay tribute to her lifetime of public service.
Trudeau and his wife Sophie are in London for Her Majesty’s funeral while on Saturday marked the solemn occasion by the book of condolences.
Canada’s PM said: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II served for her entire life, and bore the weight of her duties with impeccable grace”.
Queen Elizabeth ll was the Head of the Commonwealth and the longest serving British monarch. She passed on at 96 on the 8th of September this year at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The Queen’s death came at a moment of economic and political turmoil for the United Kingdom.
When a new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, entered office after months of uncertainty following the decision of her predecessor, Boris Johnson, to step down.
It was only two days after Truss traveled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to formally accept the Queen’s appointment as Prime Minister that the long-reigning monarch passed away.
A National Moment of Reflection will take place with a one-minute silence at 8pm tonight to mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and reflect on her life and legacy.
