The Federal Government has hailed the courageous effort by Nigerian security forces over the rescue of the remaining 130 children and staff from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, Niger State,
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris who made the commendation in a statement signed by the Minister said this rescued marks a fitting end to the year.
A presidential spokesman, Sunday Dare, announced the rescue on his official X handle on Sunday, while the post was accompanied by a photo of smiling children and a woman.
It was reported that 230 children, teachers, and other staff members were kidnapped by the gunmen who stormed the Catholic school in the early hours of November 21.
Sources said the gunmen, who arrived in large numbers, riding on over 60 motorcycles and accompanied by a van, shot the school’s gatekeeper, leaving him with serious injuries.
One hundred were released earlier by the terrorists, taking the total of freed school children to 230 while their freedom in the of bandits followed a military-intelligence driven operation.
The Federal Government who confirmed that all the abducted pupils of the School, Papiri, have been freed saying not a single pupil is left in captivity.
It empathized with the parents and guardians of the pupils for the agony the abduction has caused them, wished them a pleasant family reunion, a good healing process, saying compliments of the season and a Merry Christmas to them.
Meanwhile, the just released 130 pupils are being handed over to the Niger state government, after which they will be reunited with their families.
