The National Youth Service Corps NYSC has explained that the heavy downpour in the early hours of yesterday with unusual thunderstorm, only injured female Corps member in Abia State Orientation Camp.
In a statement released by the Scheme Spokesman on Sunday, stated contrarily to the reports in some section of the media that the thunder strike killed a female Corps member at the Camp.
The Scheme explained further the female Corps member was immediately stabilised by the dedicated Orientation Camp Medical Team from Federal Medical Centre Umuahia and quickly referred to a hospital in Umuahia for prompt medical evaluation.
It stated further that the Corps member is now very stable and responding to treatment accordingly, whereas, the parents of the Corps Member have been contacted and have confirmed that their daughter is in a very stable condition.
The Scheme pressed further that the blogger that erupted the information did not get his facts from NYSC before publishing while reiterated that the scheme as a proactive organisation, is committed to the health, well-being and security of her Corps Members at all time.
NYSC assured the general public especially parents and guardians of Corps Members currently in camp of the security and welfare of their children in NYSC Abia State Orientation Camp is fully guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the Scheme is calling on media practitioners, especially online bloggers to clarify and make consultations with the Scheme on every matter before publishing misleading and inaccurate information, that is devoid of facts about the NYSC.
