Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined other world leader to console government and people of the Republic of India over a multiple train crash in the country which killed over 280 passengers.

According to the State House Press Release on Saturday, the President Tinubu described the train accident as heartrending, while consoling the Indian government and families of the victims.

The fatal crash involving two passenger trains and a goods train in the Indian city of Balasore, in the eastern state of Odisha, occurred on Friday. Aside those killed, over 900 others were injured in what was one of the worst rail crashes in recent history.

According to the President, ““My heart goes to the families of those affected in the unfortunate and heartrending train crash in the Indian state of Odisha.

“We stand with India in brotherhood at this difficult time. The magnitude of the crash and the high casualty figure call for global support for India to adequately respond to this calamitous accident.

“I send my deepest sympathy and condolences to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of India and the families of those trapped in the crash,” the President said.

On Twitter, the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak said, “My thoughts and prayers are with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with all affected by the tragic events in Odisha.

“My deepest condolences to the family and friends of those killed, and my heartfelt support and admiration to the survivors and those working tirelessly to respond”.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau said, “The images and reports of the train crash in Odisha, India break my heart.

“I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts. At this difficult time, Canadians are standing with the people of India”.

French President, Emmanuel Macron also on tweets said, “My deepest condolences to President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and the people of India after the tragic train accident in Odisha. France stands in solidarity with you. My thoughts are with the families of the victims”.

It was reported that at least 288 people were killed and more than 850 injured in a horrific three-train collision in India, officials said on Saturday, the country’s deadliest rail accident in more than 20 years.

According to the report, the images from the crash site showed smashed train compartments torn open with blood-stained holes near Balasore, in the eastern state of Odisha.

Carriages had flipped over entirely in the crash late on Friday and rescue workers searched for survivors trapped in the mangled wreckage, with scores of bodies laid out under white sheets beside the tracks.
