The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres made an official visit to State of Kuwait over the weekend, expressed gratitude for its constructive and consistent role in promoting dialogue in the region and its contribution to humanitarian efforts, including with regard to the situation in Gaza.
According to the statement released by the World Body, Guterres who met with the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said at the 9th Conference on Effective Partnership for better humanitarian aid that the country has always been a beacon of aid.
He thanked the Government of Kuwait, the International Islamic Charity Organization, and their strategic partners, for everything they do to promote and support effective partnerships for humanitarian aid, saying this commitment is demonstrated once again in the support for people in Gaza.
UN Chief lamented that the war in Gaza has caused horrific human suffering, devastating lives, tearing families apart, and rendering huge numbers of people homeless, hungry, and traumatised, while called for immediate humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and an immediate surge in humanitarian aid.
He said, “A ceasefire will only be the start. It will be a long road back from the devastation and trauma of this war. The people of Gaza will need even stronger, deeper partnerships for humanitarian assistance and long-term development, to get back on their feet and rebuild their lives”.
Guterres added that many of Kuwait’s people feel this war personally, having witnessed a deep crisis, experienced their own recovery. “I know the people of Gaza can count on your support, partnership of the governments, charitable organizations and humanitarian agencies across the region.
