After days of unbearable traffic, stranded motorists along the Maje-Dikko axis of the Suleja–Minna corridor may soon get relief as the Federal Government orders emergency repairs to begin immediately.

Some truck drivers reportedly spent between nine and ten days trapped on the route, while commuters faced mounting hardship caused by the collapse of portions of the asphalt pavement.

The deterioration was worsened by the heavy movement of articulated vehicles, particularly those serving the NNPC depot in the area.

During an inspection on Friday, 18 September 2026, the Minister of State for Works, Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, directed the road concessionaire to complete urgent remedial works within 48 hours.

“The emergency work is to be completed within the next 48 hours,” Goronyo said, assuring road users that the government was determined to restore the free flow of traffic.

The Federal Ministry of Works has mobilised the concessionaire, the Federal Road Safety Corps and representatives of the transport sector to coordinate the intervention.

FRSC personnel have also been deployed to manage traffic and protect motorists while the repairs continue.

The affected section forms part of the approximately 7.9-kilometre Suleja–Minna corridor being delivered under a concession arrangement.

Beyond the immediate repairs, the government plans a permanent rehabilitation featuring continuous reinforced-concrete pavement designed to withstand the intense pressure from heavy-duty vehicles.

“We have seen the pains of Nigerians who use this road,” Goronyo said, appealing to commuters and motorists for patience.

The concessionaire, Trunkroad Consortium, said it had already mobilised equipment, personnel and other resources to the site.

Transport operators also welcomed the intervention, describing sound engineering, road safety and effective traffic management as essential to preventing a repeat of the crisis.

For motorists who have spent days battling the gridlock, the promise is simple: within 48 hours, the road should begin to move again.
