African leaders such as Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio and others have graced the Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s swearing-in ceremony at the Diamniadio Exhibition Centre in Dakar on Tuesday.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye took the oath of office as the country’s fifth president and the youngest African President age 44, sworn in before the members of the constitutional council and the grand chancellor at the centre.
Diomaye Faye who before the gathered African leaders and other officials said, “Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfill the office of President of the Republic of Senegal”.
He also vowed to “scrupulously observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws” and to defend “the integrity of the territory and national independence, and to spare no effort to achieve African unity”.
Report has it that the sworn-in President will then proceed to the Presidential Palace for the second phase of today’s occasion where the transfer of power will take place with outgoing President, Macky Sall.
Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu who is the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, joined leaders to witness the inauguration, felicitated with the newly sworn-in Senegalese President, Bassirou Faye in Dakar.
President Julius Bio on his side conveyed his dedication to fortifying the ties between the two countries, the Senegal and Sierra Leone while congratulated President Faye on his inauguration.
Kenyan President, William Samueo Ruto who could not make it to the inauguration on X, congratulated Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his decisive election victory.
Ruto to Faye: “Your visionary leadership is inspiring and sets an unmatched example for emerging leaders. As you assume office today, we undertake to working with you to escalate Kenya-Senegal ties for our shared prosperity”, the President said.
