Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined other African leaders to congratulate the former United States President, Donald Trump who was re-election as the 47th American President.
According to the statement released by the Special Adviser to President on information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as the President looks forward to strengthening ties between Nigeria and the United States amid complex challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world.
Tinubu said, “Together, we can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and address global challenges that affect our citizens.”
The President stated that Trump’s victory reflects the trust and confidence American people have placed in his leadership while congratulating them on their commitment to democracy.
Tinubu believes that, given President Trump’s experience as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, his return to the White House as 47th president will usher in an era of earnest, beneficial, and reciprocal economic and development partnerships between Africa and America.
Acknowledging the United States’ influence, power, and position in determining the trend and course of global events, the Nigerian leader trusts that President Trump will bring the world closer to peace and prosperity.
Also, South African President, Cyril Ramophasa on X congratulated the United States President-elect, Donald Trump on his return to the Presidency.
He said he is looking forward to continuing the close and mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations across all domains of their cooperation.
“In the global arena, we look forward to our Presidency of the G20 in 2025, where we will work closely with the US who will succeed us in the G20 Presidency in 2026”, South African President added.
Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopian President on X, said, “Congratulations to President Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump) on your election victory and comeback. I look forward to working together to further strengthen relationship between our two countries during your term”.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been declared the 47th President of the United States following a decisive victory in the latest election, with multiple US media outlets, including CNN, announcing his triumph.
Trump, the Republican candidate, secured a landslide win against the incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democrat candidate.
The announcement of Trump’s victory marks a historic moment, as he becomes the first US president to win non-consecutive second term, a remarkable achievement in American political history.
