The nation has been thrown into mourning over the death of a Nigerian young lady, a lawyer, and a promising media practitioner who worked with Arise TV, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.

Maduagwu’s life was cut short in circumstances linked to the violent robbery of the men of the underworld at her residence in Katempa, Abuja on 29th September 2025.
The Arise TV anchor reported to have died from injuries sustained after she jumped from her flat in a state of panic during the pendency of the dastardly robbery.

In a statement released by the Federal Government through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris described her death as regrettable and a grievous loss not only to her immediate family and the Arise News team, but to the Nigerian media fraternity and indeed, the nation.

“Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who by every account was a vibrant and a dedicated news anchor, consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond”, he said.
The Minister stated that the TV anchor’s death is a grievous loss to the Nigerian media fraternity, and indeed the nation and assured for a swift investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to her death.

He extended his “heartfelt sympathy to the parents, siblings, colleagues, and all who knew and loved the late news anchor,” and prayed that God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Also, the Minister of Works, Sen (Engr) David Umahi in a statement released by his aide, offered deepest compassions to her family, associates, sympathizers, and institutions.
He extended his condolences to the management of Arise TV, whose he said their emotions have been shattered by the irreparable loss of this amazing personality who made incredible impact in the media and entertainment industry within the short period of her lifetime.

Umahi called for a distinctive trail of those who circumstantially caused this calamity so as to bring them to justice. “While we pray God to grant eternal repose to this victim of societal criminal social space, we stand full square for her justice”, he said.

The Minister concluded, “Please accept the assurances of the compassionate considerations, esteemed regards, and best wishes of my family, management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Works”.
