In the bustling heart of Abuja, against a backdrop of professional excellence and legal history, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has joined a distinguished gathering for the annual heralding of the Body of Benchers Lecture.

This was not merely a formal event; it was a profound meeting of minds aimed at fortifying the very foundations of the Nigerian justice system.

The year’s theme, “Body of Benchers: Beyond Call to Bar,” set the tone for a series of deep reflections on the evolving responsibilities of legal practitioners.

For the participants, the message was clear: the commitment to justice, ethics, and professional excellence must extend far beyond the initial entry into the legal profession.
Goronyo’s presence cast a spotlight on the critical link between the executive branch and the judiciary.

His participation, alongside esteemed figures like the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, and the Chairman of the productivity of the Body of Benchers, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, underscored a unified vision for a robust and reliable legal framework.

As the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, clearly articulated in the keynote address, the role of the legal professional in nation-building is paramount.
This sentiment was echoed in the presence of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, and other top officials from across the legal landscape, including the leadership of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The lecture served as a vital forum for fostering dialogue and reinforcing the standards that maintain the integrity of the legal profession.

As the evening concluded, the shared sense of responsibility among these leaders of the bar and bench left lasting impression, promising a future where the rule of law remains a cornerstone of the nation’s progress.
