The Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, has announced on Friday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to transformative the country’s infrastructure development.

He also emphasized that current federal road projects are strategic investments designed to last over 100 years without maintenance.

During an extensive inspection of federal road projects across the South-East on March 13, 2026, Umahi highlighted that these legacy projects are not merely road construction but rather interconnected investments aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s economic future for generations.

Umahi stressed that the four major legacy road projects are designed to interlink across the country and serve as enduring national assets.

According to the statement released by his aide, the Minister declared, “All the four legacy projects of the President are interconnected. They will last a hundred years. No maintenance.”

He further explained that these projects signify a bold shift from temporary road solutions to durable concrete highways.
The Minister also addressed critics, urging for constructive engagement and patriotism in public discourse.

He challenged political critics to reflect on their past records before questioning the current administration, stating, “Those criticizing us should criticize constructively.

“We have a duty to continue to offer explanations. There should be some elements of patriotism. Opposition does not mean that we talk without knowledge.”
Umahi highlighted the unprecedented scale of road construction under the Tinubu administration, with concrete roads being built across the country that are designed to last a century.

He expressed confidence that history would vindicate President’s ambitious infrastructure agenda.

During the inspection, Umahi provided updates on several major road projects in the South-East, including the Dangote Tax Credit road initiative.
He detailed the strategic restructuring of a 60km dualized project into a 69km reinforced concrete carriageway due to rising construction costs, ensuring the project remains within the original budget of 103 billion.

The project is being executed by HiTech Construction Company, known for its work on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.

Umahi also discussed the Calabar–Abuja super highway corridor, a major part of the administration’s long-term national infrastructure strategy, with section one spanning 125.35 kilometers and a total contract sum of about 454 billion, with 30% already paid.

He praised the contractors for their commitment to quality and adherence to engineering standards.
