Tinubu condemns attacks in Plateau, Kaduna, vows Justice

Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unequivocally condemned the recent barbaric attacks in the Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The President described these acts as a direct affront to the nation’s values and assured Nigerians that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), while labeled those responsible as “heartless cowards” for targeting defenseless citizens under the cover of night.

He emphasized that the objective of such attacks, particularly in Jos, extends beyond causing immediate harm, aiming instead to ignite a cycle of reprisal attacks and further bloodshed.

Details of the Attacks

Plateau State: Angwan Rukuba, Jos, the attack in Angwan Rukuba, a university community in Jos North Local Govt Area, occurred on the night of Sunday, March 29, 2026, coinciding with Palm Sunday.

Reports indicate a significant loss of life, with casualty figures ranging from 26 to over 40 individuals.
In response to the escalating tensions, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State promptly imposed a 48-hour curfew across Jos North LGA, effective from midnight on March 29 to April 1, to help contain the situation.

Kaduna State: Kahir Village, Kagarko. In a separate but equally heinous incident, gunmen attacked wedding guests in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

This assault resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals and abduction of 28 others. President Tinubu confirmed that two of the abducted victims have since been safely rescued, and has issued directive for the immediate rescue of all remaining abductees.
Presidential Directives and Reassurance

The President has instructed security agencies to intensify their efforts in pursuing the perpetrators of these attacks.

He also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, particularly from certain media outlets, that could inflame tensions by falsely attributing
religious motives to the violence.

Tinubu reaffirmed that security agencies are actively working to address the situation and underscored the critical role of public cooperation in maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property.

He urged communities to adhere to evacuation, relocation, and other related advice from authorities.
Furthermore, the President called for greater proactivity from security agencies, urging them to act on early warning intelligence to prevent such attacks.

He commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for their respective efforts in managing the crises and assured both states of his unwavering support.

The President also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

He concluded by stating that the government is in the process of acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable security agencies to track and apprehend criminals in real-time.
