Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has reaffirmed his steadfast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru.

While calling for unity, dialogue, and party discipline within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State as preparations for the 2027 general elections commence.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 29 April, the Minister clarified that his consultations with President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru confirmed there was no directive preventing aspirants from purchasing nomination forms for the upcoming elections.

“I have spoken to Mr President and our governor and there was no instruction from Mr President that those who want to contest elections in Ebonyi State should be shut off from buying forms,” Umahi stated, acknowledging the democratic rights of all aspirants.

Despite this, the former Ebonyi State Governor reiterated his firm political stance within the state, throwing his weight behind Governor Nwifuru as the sole candidate.

“However, in Ebonyi State, my support is to the governor as we have adopted him as sole candidate. This is the position of Mr President nationwide and our governor agrees with me,” he asserted.
Umahi underscored the importance of internal democracy and peaceful engagement among party members.

He urged Governor Nwifuru to lead a process that prioritizes consensus among aspirants, stating, “Dialogue and negotiation should be adopted by the governor as to possibly reach consensus among aspirants, and where consensus is not reached, then direct primaries must take place.”

The Minister emphasized that his political loyalty remains with the President and the Governor, rather than any individual aspirant.
“I have no interest in any aspirant other than my support for governor and president. Consensus is only among aspirants supervised by the leader of the party, the governor,” he clarified.

Concluding his message, Umahi stressed the critical need for unity within the APC, highlighting that the party’s strength is rooted in the collective efforts and sacrifices of its members over the years.

“This position is to keep the party we have suffered to build together and ensure that we are united to make big votes for all our candidates, especially the President and Governor.

“No one person can do this alone. We need one another,” he added, urging all party faithful to work together for a stronger, more cohesive APC in Ebonyi State.
