The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a massive nationwide
special patrol operation, deploying over 30,000 personnel, including Regular and Special Marshals, to ensure safer roads and seamless travel during the upcoming Eid El-Kabir celebrations.

The operation, which commenced on May 25 and will run until May 31, 2026,
aims to significantly reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and congestion across the country.

This strategic intervention is a crucial part of the Corps’ annual efforts during festive periods, known for increased vehicular movement

The FRSC’s comprehensive plan
includes ensuring the free flow of traffic, strategic management of identified black spots and flashpoints, prompt rescue services, immediate clearance of obstructions, and strict enforcement of traffic laws on all major highways and critical corridors nationwide.

To bolster these efforts, the FRSC has mobilized an array of operational equipment and logistics. Patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, bikes, radar guns, and breathalysers have been strategically deployed to facilitate rapid response to emergencies and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Zonal Commanding Officers, Sector Commanders, and Unit Commanders have been directed to maintain aggressive visibility patrols and ensure full coverage of identified corridors throughout the operation period.
The special patrol will specifically target common infractions such as excessive speed, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of phones while driving, operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, and driving with expired or worn-out tyres.

Mobile courts will be in full operation nationwide to ensure the speedy prosecution of traffic offenders, reinforcing the Corps’ commitment to compliance with established traffic
regulations.

Additionally, night rescue teams have been strategically positioned at
designated operational commands to provide 24-hour coverage of major highways.
Key corridors earmarked for intensive patrol and traffic management include the Abuja‒ Kaduna‒Kano, Akwanga‒Lafia‒Makurdi, Kaduna‒Saminaka‒Jos, Ibadan‒Ogere‒Sagamu, Sagamu‒Mowe ‒Lagos, Makurdi‒Otukpo‒9th Mile, Asaba ‒Abraka‒Ughelli‒Warri, and
Okene‒Ogori‒Owo routes, among others.

The FRSC is also collaborating with various agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, military formations, and emergency medical service providers, to strengthen traffic management and emergency response mechanisms.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, urges motorists to exercise patience, discipline, and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
He specifically advises against excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, night travels, and overloading, emphasizing that such behaviours endanger lives.

Road users are encouraged to cooperate with deployed personnel and utilize the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 and the National Traffic Radio 107.1FM for prompt reporting of crashes, obstructions, and other traffic emergencies.

The FRSC reassures Nigerians of its readiness to ensure safer roads and wishes all Muslim faithful and road users a peaceful, safe, and crash-free Eid El-Kabir celebration.
