In a remarkable display of hands-on leadership, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, recently took charge of an emergency operation to clear a massive traffic gridlock on the Abuja‒Kaduna Expressway.

This decisive action comes just as he extends warm Eid el-Kabir greetings to the Muslim Ummah, urging all Nigerians to prioritize safety during the festive season.

The gridlock, which threatened to paralyze one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors, occurred at the Azara Bridge along the Jere axis.

It was triggered by ongoing road
construction compounded by the breakdown of an articulated vehicle carrying a crane at a narrow diversion point.

As the traffic stretched for kilometers, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded, the Corps Marshal swiftly arrived at the scene.

Working in close synergy with the Nigerian Army, construction officials, and personnel from the FRSC Kaduna and FCT Sector Commands, Mohammed personally coordinated the evacuation of the obstructing vehicle.
Eyewitnesses praised his swift and professional intervention, noting that his physical presence not only restored free vehicular movement in record time but also averted potential secondary crashes and security risks.

Following this successful operation, the Corps Marshal seamlessly transitioned from field commander to safety advocate, delivering a timely Eid el-Kabir message.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful, commending their devotion and sacrifice, and drew a powerful parallel between the essence of the season and the discipline required on the nation’s highways.
“The essence of Eid el-Kabir, which symbolizes sacrifice, submission, and compassion for humanity, reflects the same values required for safety and orderliness on the nation’s highways,” Mohammed stated.

He emphasized that many road traffic crashes are entirely avoidable when road users exercise patience and respect for traffic regulations.

As millions prepare to travel for the
holidays, he issued a strong appeal to motorists, passengers, and pedestrians to celebrate responsibly.
He warned against dangerous behaviors such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, drunk driving, and route violations.

To ensure a crash-free celebration, the FRSC has reaffirmed its commitment to safer roads through intensified patrols, strategic personnel deployment, and prompt rescue services.

The Corps Marshal also reminded the public to report crashes, obstructions, or emergencies using the FRSC toll-free number 122 or the National Traffic Radio at 107.1 FM.

By combining decisive action on the expressway with a passionate plea for road safety, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has set a powerful example, reminding all Nigerians that safety is a collective responsibility.
