On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Nigeria prepared to mark a significant dual milestone: its 27th Democracy Day and the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The occasion was to commemorate the June 12, Democracy Day with a World Press in Abuja, where the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, delivered a speech that underscored the nation’s unwavering commitment to democratic values.

The Minister, in his address, highlighted the profound importance of Democracy Day as a time for national reflection on Nigeria’s democratic journey and a celebration of the resilience of its institutions.

He paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (M.K.O.) Abiola, whose democratic ideals continue to inspire generations.

The Minister also acknowledged the pivotal roles played by numerous Nigerians, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the pro-democracy movement that ultimately led to the restoration of democratic rule.

“Twenty-seven years of uninterrupted democratic governance is a milestone worthy of celebration,” stated Idris.

He emphasized that the celebration stands as a testament to determination of Nigerians to uphold the democratic values, strengthen national institutions, and continuously strive for a more prosperous and united nation.

This year’s celebration held particular significance as it coincided with the third anniversary of the “Renewed Hope Administration.”

The press conference served as a platform to review the progress made over the past three years, assess the impact of ongoing reforms, and reaffirm the govt’s collective commitment to building a stronger and more inclusive Nigeria.

The event which was organized to provide both Nigerians and international community with comprehensive overview of the current administration’s journey, its achievements, challenges encountered, and the guiding vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
