Electricity supply to communities served by the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations has been disrupted following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu–Keffi–Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during heavy rain and strong winds.
The line subsequently tripped on overcurrent protection, prompting TCN to isolate the affected section for safety.
As a result, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga substations are currently unavailable. TCN said no load can be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.
Engineers have been deployed to the site to assess the damage and determine the materials and technical requirements needed to begin restoration work. The company said it would provide further updates as repairs progress.
Meanwhile, TCN has also announced scheduled preventive maintenance at the Ijebu-Ode Transmission Substation on October 8 and 9.
The exercise will cover the T1 and T2 30MVA, 132/33kV transformers, with one transformer serviced each day between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
On Thursday, maintenance on the T1 transformer will affect electricity supply to Ijebu-Ode and Idowa, while Friday’s work on the T2 transformer will affect Ijebu-Igbo and Barracks.
TCN said bulk power supply will be restored to each transformer at the end of its scheduled maintenance period and apologized to consumers for the disruption.
