The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has arrested several suspected illegal NIN enrolment operators and seized equipment during enforcement operations in Gwagwalada and other locations.

The operation, led by the Commission’s Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit, is part of efforts to curb unauthorised enrolment, illegal data modification and extortion, while protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s National Identity Management System.

NIMC warned Nigerians against using unapproved agents, noting that NIN enrolment must be completed only at designated NIMC centres. Data modification can also be carried out through the Commission’s self-service platform.

The Commission urged NIN holders to download the NINAuth application from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store to protect their identity, print NIN slips and access other security features.

NIMC Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the Commission’s zero tolerance for extortion and unethical practices, assuring Nigerians and legal residents of seamless and reliable services.

The Commission advised applicants and NIN holders to obtain information only through its official website, www.nimc.gov.ng, verified social media platforms or its toll-free line, 0800 0616 462.
