UNILAG announces date of resumption, first semester exams

The Management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced Monday, October 24, 2022 as date for resumption of lectures for the first semester, 2021/2022 Academic Session.

The announcement was made on its website on Tuesday, following the suspension of the industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), one which necessitated a review of the University’s 2021/2022 academic calendar.

Recalled that academic staff across federal universities under the aegis of the ASUU, on Monday, February 14, 2022 embarked on a nationwide industrial action, a situation which led to the suspension of teaching activities in all federal Universities including the University of Lagos.

According to the revised academic calendar for the 2021/2022 academic session, lectures commence on Monday, October 24 and will run for four weeks, first semester examinations are to hold between Monday, November 28 and Saturday, December 10, 2022 across all levels and faculties.

While the second semester for the 2021/2022 academic session would commence on Monday, January 9, 2023 and end on Saturday, May, 20, 2023.

Meeting with the Provost, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Directors and Co-ordinators of Academic Programmes, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, charged all teaching staff to optimize virtual learning especially for large classes.

Ogundipe to acknowledged and appreciated the Provost, Deans, HODs, Directors and Co-ordinators for their efforts and commitment to the growth, progress, development and sustained peace in the university over the years, feat he said, brought about the improved rating and global reckoning which UNILAG enjoys among the comity on ivory towers.

Congratulating the management, staff, students and all stakeholders in the university community over the latest Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings which places UNILAG within the 401 to 500 Bracket, the Vice-Chancellor, again harped on the indispensability of integrity and institutional loyalty in the pursuit of career fulfillment.

He affirmed that the management, under his headship, had set the University of Lagos on a path of steady progress and improved impact in all spheres.

Ogundipe also charged all stakeholders to remain committed to the noble ideals which makes UNILAG the university of first choice and the nation’s pride.

The Vice-Chancellor, whose 5-year term in office ends on November 11, 2022, later hosted the Provost, Deans, HODs, Directors and Co-ordinators to a cocktail as a token of appreciation for their support and service to the university.
