The National Youth Service Corps NYSC has vowed to ensure that 2023 elections and National Population/Housing Census records huge success while promised to continue throw weight behind all policies of the Federal Government.
Acting Director General of the Scheme, Christy Ifeyinwa Uba made this known in his address to Corps Members and camp officials during her visit to NYSC Anambra State Orientation Camp in Mbaukwu/Umuawulu recently.
According to the statement released by NYSC Spokesman, Eddy Megwa, the acting DG said NYSC which is the foremost youth mobilizing organisation in the African continent has been uniting the country through its deployment process, participation in national assignments and Corps Members’ Community Development projects.
According to her, “Your participation in 2023 election is an adhoc assignment, you must be neutral and apolitical, and don’t violate any of the electoral laws. You are seriously advised to adhere to these instructions.
“Be good ambassadors of your institutions, families and NYSC. You are now part of history as millions of youths have passed through the Scheme, and today they are leaders.
“You must be security conscious at all times. You are expected to be of good conduct and avoid cutting corners”, Uba said.
Uba admonished the Corps Members to shun cultism, cybercrimes, drug addiction and other social vices that are inimical to their future.
She urged them to imbibe patience, discipline and diligence which are pre-requisites for a successful life.
The acting DG advised further that the Corps Members should leverage on NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.
Adding that, “you are expected to participate in the post-camp training, and ensure you acquire a skill that will enable you become employers of labour at the end of your service year”.
Also again admonished the Corps Members to impact positively in their host communities which would serve as good memories after they exit service.
She implored them to justify the huge investments of the government and their parents over them.
The NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Iruma in her remark, said the visit of the Acting Director General of the Scheme which coincided with the camp cultural carnival is an attestation to Mrs Uba’s passion for Corps Members.
She added that the celebration of camp cultural festival showcases Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage which has been strengthening the cord of unity among successive batches of Corps Members.
