The Minister who was represented by the Federal Controller of Works, Ogun State, Engr. (Mrs.) Forosola Oloyede noted that about 85 people were employed during construction of the internal road at the centre.

Fashola said, “while it is true that a lot of works needs to be done in many sectors of our national life, including education, the President Buhari government has stepped up the lead to the process of getting that work done.”

He revealed that the intervention in roads in Federal Medical Centres has taken place across the six geo- political zones in the country and Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta is the beneficiary of the one for the South West zone.

In his remark, the Chief Medical Director of the Centre, Prof. Adewale Olomu commended the Federal Government for extending this infrastructural development to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

He noted that this road intervention would put an end to the erosion that usually occurres during the raining season thereby impeding accessibility within the hospital premises.

According to Prof Olomu, “due to the unfavourable topographical situation of the hospital, erosion has been a yearly occurrence but when I became the Chief Medical Director in 2017, I sought the assistance of the FG by communicating with the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Batunde Fahola for its intervention”.

Prof Olomu also stated that the Centre has another un tarred 2.5km road and pleaded with the Federal Government to intervene in order to facilitate easy movement within the hospital premises.

Speaking on the road as a therapy, the Deputy Director, Nursing and Theartre Manager, Mrs. Abosede Fagoyinbo, emphasized that good roads facilitates easy access to the hospital when a person is being conveyed for medical treatment while the impact of a bad road on a sick person could worsen the situation.

The 850 meters road links the other parts of the center to the Medical Library and new office of the Chief Medical Director.
