The Anglican Grammar School Okenla, Ifo, Ogun State, Old Students Association AGSOSA on Saturday, 22rd of July, 2023, elected a new President, OS. Onipede Funso who will be overseeing the affair of the association for a tenure of two years.
Onipede who defeated his opposition with wide range votes expressed his gratitude to members, delegates for their unwavering support, dedication, enthusiasm throughout the journey which he classified has been truly inspiring.
Giving his vote of thanks, the elected President said, “I am delighted with AGSOSA achievement in the election held on Saturday”, adding that the commitment members shown to the alma mater and fellow alumni has undoubtedly made a significant impact on the outcome of the election.
Onipede said further that the election is a testament to the strength bond and the shared values members hold dear, according to him, “The victory we have secured goes beyond just winning an election; it symbolizes the unity and spirit of our alumni community.
“We are a force to be reckoned with, capable of achieving great things when we come together as one. Your contributions, whether big or small, played integral role in our success. Whether it was through spreading the word, mobilizing support, or actively participating in campaign, each action made a difference”, he added.
Also, Engineer Bankole Oluwafemi who served as the Pioneer Vice President 2 in charge of members in diaspora retained his executive seat to continue his remarkable services for the association for another two years.
In his acceptance speech, Bankole thanked the members for being there for the association at an important time such as this, overwhelmed with gratitude to have been nominated and re-elected to represent the interest at the national level of the noble alumni.
According to him, “The concluding administration was not something I did alone as there are many other people who deserve to be applauded for getting us through it all. I cannot really start mentioning names since we all played our roles and we shall do more in the new dispensation.
“Many thanks to all our seniors, colleagues and juniors for our robust inputs. I cannot thank us enough but we shall do more. Special gratitude to National and Diaspora Excos for all fruitful deliberations that yielded us this few results and together we shall deliver much more”.
The elected VP 2 appreciated his immediate family and friends for their prompt moral support at all times. “It’s a new day, a new era to take the association to the limelight of greater heights. Together we stand and together we shall do this”, he said.
In his Valedictory address, the immediate past President for the association, Joseph Uchea who wholeheartedly welcomed the new Executives that will be sworn into leadership, enjoined members to work with confidence, passion, and a steadfast commitment to shared the association aspirations and goals.
Uchea said, “As we bid farewell to the past and embrace the future, it is important to remember that our association indeed, any association – thrives on the collective strength and unity of its members.
“Let us continue to foster a vibrant community, where each member feels valued, connected, and motivated to contribute to the growth and development of our alma mater”, the immediate past President said.
He urged the new Executives to approach the future with hope and optimism. “Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence, supporting educational initiatives, fostering mentorship programmes, providing assistance to deserving students, just as promised during campaign”.
The election which was free, fair, transparent, and credible had Twelve sets participated with 113 delegates voting at the election venue, while the following members are new National Officers of the AGSOSA as elected on Saturday 22nd July, 2023.
President, OS Funso Onipede – 1981 set, Vice President 1, OS Bamidele Adebowale – 1991 set, Vice President 2, Bankole Oluwafemi – 1992 set, National Secretary, OS Charles Oloyede – 1985 set, Assistance National Secretary, OS Charles Afolabi – 1995 set.
Also, Financial Secretary, OS Oladeji Rahmon – 1994 set, Publicity Secretary, OS Ademola Akindele – 1987 set, Social Secretary, OS Grace Majekodunmi – 1990 set, Welfare Secretary, OS Sakirat Fasina – 1984 set.
It was stated that bye election or appointment to the positions of the Treasurer and National Provost shall be determined by the SRA according to the election guidelines 2023.
