The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Authur Okowa has paid tribute to the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu who was reported died at 67 in a German hospital on Wednesday.

Okowo double as the Vice Presidential Candidate for the People Democratic Party (PDP) for 2023 election on his social media platforms mourned the death of the former Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum.

It was reported that the Ondo State Givernor, Akeredolu has been receiving treatment for two ailments, Leukemia and Prostate cancer, which have made him incapacitated for 7 months, died at about 2am in Germany, according to a Ondo State Government Senior Official.

In his tribute, Okowa said though from different parties, but while Akeredolu served as Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, he had the privilege to work closely and witness the brilliance and dedication of the late Governor of Ondo State.

He added that today, Akeredolu’s passing leaves behind a large void; as his brilliant mind, his tenacious spirit, and his ability to organize his colleagues were often unmatched and under-appreciated.

“As the people of Ondo State mourn the passing of their Governor, my family and I mourn the passing of a leader who rose through the ranks and died in the service of his state”, The PDP Vice Presidential Candidate said.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state said arrangements were being concluded to swear in his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa as reported.

Also, earlier report confirmed that the governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, in a statement, said Akeredolu would transmit a letter to State House of Assembly handing over power to his deputy, Lucy Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor during his treatment in Germany.
