Atiku hails Flamingoes over medal win at U-17 Women’s World Cup

Former Nigerian Vice President and People Democratic Party Presidential PDP Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the under 17 Nigerian female players known as Flamingos for winning bronze medal at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

Atiku took to his social media platforms on Sunday to celebrate the Flamingos saying over a week ago, the Nigerian female team qualified for the Semifinal for the first time and today, they brought Nigeria a medal.

Which he described as proof of what being united as a team can accomplish. “I congratulate our Flamingoes on their bronze medal at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

“Over a week ago, they qualified for the Semifinal of the U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time. And today, they brought us a medal. Proof of what being united as a team can accomplish. Congratulations”, the PDP Presidential Candidate said.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s U-17 female team, the Flamingoes defeated Germany to win the bronze medal at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The Flamingos surrendered a 3-0 lead to the Germans but went on to win the game 3-2 on penalties.

According to goalgettermedia, Nigeria took the lead in the 20th minute, as Opeyemi Ajakaye registered her first goal of the tournament.

And in the 48th minute Aminat Bello doubled the Flamingos’ lead after heading in from a corner, while in the 63rd minute, substitute Edidiong Etim scored the third goal for Nigeria.

The Germans came back to life in the 73rd as Jella Viet put one back for them. And in the 88th minute Platiner got Germany’s second before Loreen Bender leveled in the 90th minute to force the game into penalty shootout.

However, Nigeria won 3-2 in the shootout, after the Germans missed three of their efforts while the Flamingos saw one of their effort saved.
