A remarkable journey culminated in celebration as Dr Divine and Dr Dave Nelson marked their achievements alongside family and friends during 9th induction ceremony at Babcock University on Tuesday.
The newly minted doctors, Dr Divine and Dr Dave, raised by a single mother, joined 92 successful colleagues at the well-attended 2024 all ‘stethoscope event, held in the 600-seat auditorium of the College of Health and Medical Sciences, Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State.
Amb Peace Onuiri, the proud mother of the First-class graduates, expressed her overwhelming joy as a single parent, witnessing her children overcome adversity to establish their names in the Nigerian medical community.
In an interview with our Reporter, Onuiri attributed her success to God Almighty, whom she referred to as the “father of the fatherless,” for guiding her through the challenges of single motherhood, ultimately leading Dr. Divine and Dr. Dave to excel as First-class medical students at the esteemed Babcock University.
Meanwhile, 93 medical doctors were inducted into the medical profession by the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr Fatima Kyari; to them, their induction event was a dream come true as they expressed happiness and beamed with smiles for their great accomplishment after six years sojourned in Babcock.
Represented Dr Fatima Kyari was Prof. Olusegun Akinyinka, who officiated the oath of allegiance for the new inductees at the ceremony held on campus.
He encouraged the inductees, among whom at least 25 achieved distinctions in various courses, including Dr. Divine and Dr. Dave, who are siblings.
The registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and dedication as they advance in their careers.
She cautioned that unethical practices are strictly prohibited in the medical profession, and any practitioner who violates ethical standards will face appropriate consequences.
She stated, “While medical practice may not always be financially rewarding, practitioners earn respect in society due to their role in preserving lives and contributing to humanity.”
She further urged them to challenge themselves, noting that they have acquired knowledge that must now be applied in practical situations.
“Let integrity guide your actions. It is essential to demonstrate the right attitude, remain diligent, and seek a second opinion when necessary,” she advised.
