Dokpesi’s death: Jonathan pays condolence visit to family in Abuja

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has paid condolence visit to the family of Engr. Raymond Dokpesi on the shocking passing of accomplished entrepreneur, media mogul, renowned humanitarian on Monday in Abuja.

Jonathan disclosed this on social media platform, said Dokpesi was a successful businessman and philanthropist who took the art of giving and human relations to a new level, also a patriot and politician, who exemplified the virtues of loyalty, justice and service.

The death of Dokpesi, founder of the Daar Communications, which is the All Independent Television (AIT), Raypower Radio Station and an ally to former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was confirmed by a family member to The Whistler.



According to the family source, who said Dokpesi suffered stroke shortly after the recent Ramadan fast and had been managing his health since, placed on occupational therapy to improve his daily activities by working out at the gym.

The source said during one of his routine gym exercises, Dokpesi was electrocuted while using one of the gym equipment, leading to a stroke and his eventual death.

Jonathan stated further that Dokpesi was a team player and bridge builder, High Chief Dokpesi played the kind of politics that promoted friendship, ethnic cohesion and national unity.



“He will be remembered for his works of charity, devotion to his faith and inspiring leadership, especially serving as trailblazer who pioneered private broadcasting and played a major role in advancing media freedom in Nigeria”, he said.

Recall that Raymond Dokpesi and his family members were in 2020 hospitalized at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital after they were diagnosed with COVID-19. They, however, survived the disease.

Dokpesi founded the African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM and was the Deputy Director-General of technical and systems of Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential Campaign Council.
