Vice President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has kept faith with his promise to rebuild Nigeria, urging Ekiti voters to renew the administration’s mandate in the forthcoming presidential election.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Shettima said the government’s economic reforms, though difficult, were beginning to produce results and improve citizens’ lives.
“We know the sacrifices you have made, and we are beginning to reap the benefits of those difficult decisions,” the Vice President said.
He highlighted federal projects in Ekiti, including the conversion of the former State Specialist Hospital in Ikole-Ekiti into a Federal Medical Centre, ongoing electricity projects, road reconstruction, education loans and agricultural support programmes.
Shettima also cited work on the Akure–Ikere–Ado-Ekiti road and the reconstruction of the Itawure–Aramoko –Ado-Ekiti route, promising that the administration would complete all unfinished projects in the state.
The rally produced a strong political endorsement for Tinubu, with Ekiti leaders declaring that the President would receive 90 per cent of the state’s registered votes.
In a notable show of support across party lines, the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party and Allied Peoples Movement in the last Ekiti governorship election pledged to mobilise their supporters for the APC candidate.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji attributed the endorsement to the impact of federal government projects across the state.
“We will use our votes to say thank you to a President who has given approval for so many federal roads and other critical projects in Ekiti State,” Oyebanji said.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Abdulaziz Yari and former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole also urged Ekiti voters to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
They pointed to the NELFUND student loan scheme, road construction, support for small businesses, improved security recruitment and foreign exchange reforms as evidence of the administration’s achievements.
Shettima told the crowd that the responsibility for continuing the government’s reform agenda now rested with the electorate.
“We seek your mandate to complete the work we have begun, fulfil the commitments we have made and carry this mission to its conclusion,” he said.
