IBK Tennis Academy organises 1-day tournament for children in Abuja

The IBK Tennis Academy has organized a one-day Tennis Clinic/ tournament for children between the ages 5 to 15 at the Shell Maderia Estate Tennis Court, Abuja on Saturday.

This was the first tennis tournament witnessed by children from different schools in Abuja, Nigeria, while parents and fans of the sports event that were present for the tournament expressed their happiness during the event.

Speaking of invention of mordern tennis which has gone through much dispute over the years, but the game was officially recognized in 1973 commemorated its introduction by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield in 1873.

Wingfield published the first book of rules that year and took out a patent on his game in 1874, although historians have concluded that similar games were played earlier and that the first tennis club was established by the Englishman Harry Gem and several associates in Leamington in 1872.

In his speech at the event, the Organizers and the Head Coach Mr. Ibukun Phillips has promised to take the tournament to the next level by next year with sponsors like the Shell and other private organization who showed their interest in sponsoring the event.

The Chief Coach said he decided to bring his talent in Tennis Court to develop the children for international games by next year.

One of the parents Mrs. Claudine Mensah Awute while expressing her joy said the tennis tournament is very important tools to the fiscal development for the children’s growth.

Mr. Pierluigi Spano who is also a parent revealed that in Italy, tennis is a game that brings people together for development, appreciated the organisers for their efforts, promised participation of his children in the next event and vowed to bring sponsors to the academy.

Another parent Mr. Domenico Barranca urged parents, guardians to support the game of tennis tournament for their children’s growth and development.

The tennis clinic and tournament witnessed children and parents from different schools platform and it was fanfare.
