Legal Petition filed against Igbogbo Baiyeku Chairmanship Aspirant over alleged fraud

A legal petition has been filed against Mr. Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, a chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) elections, over allegations of multiple voter registrations.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, the law firm of Chukwuyem Atewe & Co., acting on behalf of a concerned citizen, Mr. Jinadu Oshinleye, called for the immediate disqualification of Mr. Aroyewun from the race.

The petition alleges that Mr. Aroyewun, who previously contested for the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2023 under Ward Ijede J, is now presenting a different Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to contest in a separate polling unit within Igbogbo Ward, which is reportedly unverifiable on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

“This amounts to multiple voter registration, a punishable offense under Section 12(3) of the Electoral Act,” the petition reads, citing precedents of disqualification of other APC aspirants in similar circumstances, including cases from Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA.

The petitioner argues that such discrepancies raise questions about Mr. Aroyewun’s political legitimacy and residency claims in the Igbogbo Baiyeku area.

The letter was copied to key APC stakeholders, including the party’s screening committee, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, and the local APC leadership in Igbogbo Baiyeku.

As of press time, neither Mr. Aroyewun nor the APC has issued an official response to the allegations.
