National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, recently hosted its highly anticipated Gala and Award Night on March 25th, 2026.

Held at the prestigious Christ Academy International School, the event served as a vibrant platform to honor educational leaders, celebrate achievements, and critically examine the future trajectory of private schooling in Nigeria.

The evening commenced with prayers and a warm welcome address from Pastor Ameh Benjamin Emmanuel, Chairman of the Organizing Committee.

He underscored the transformative
power of education in shaping Nigeria’s future, setting the stage for the day’s central theme: “Prospects and Challenges of the New Nigerian Curriculum.”

The air was thick with anticipation as distinguished guests and members gathered, eager to engage in insightful discussions and celebrate collective successes.

Honoring Legacies and Embracing New Horizons

A significant highlight of the event was the seamless transition of leadership within the NAPPS Gwagwalada Chapter. Mrs. Esther Tah, outgoing Chairperson, delivered an emotional farewell speech, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of her tenure.
She proudly enumerated the chapter’s notable accomplishments, including the strategic acquisition of essential educational equipment such as a projector and a state-of-the-art public address system.

Her heartfelt gratitude extended to her dedicated executive team and the unwavering support of the members.

Navigating the New Educational Landscape

The intellectual cornerstone of the evening was the keynote address delivered by the former NAPPS FCT President, Dr. Bukola Dosunmu.
Her discourse meticulously explored the intricacies of new Nigerian curriculum, elucidating its paradigm shift from a content-based approach to a competency based framework.

Dr. Dosunmu highlighted the curriculum’s focus on skill development, the inculcation of core values, and the practical application of knowledge.

While acknowledging the promising prospects of enhanced learning outcomes, she candidly addressed the inherent challenges, particularly concerning teacher readiness and the
escalating demand for new resources.
She passionately urged school owners to prioritize investment in staff development and to proactively embrace technological advancements to navigate this evolving educational landscape.

Hajia (Dr) Samira Jibir, National President’s message was centered on the burden of leadership, acknowledging that leading private school proprietors often involves facing criticism and ‘insults’, saying leadership must remain focus on the service rendering.

Contributing to the event theme, Hajia Jibir emphasized that the “learners of today are differently wired” and that schools must “live technology” rather than just use it.
Celebrating leadership roles, Hajia (Barr.) Hassana Ohunene Momoh, while giving her Goodwill Messages, articulated a clear vision of commitment.

She called for the unwavering support for the association and build upon the robust foundation established, emphasizing the importance of fostering continued unity and progress within the leadership.

Outgoing FCT Chairperson Chief (Mrs) Rukayat Agboola also emphasized that private schools are not competitors but collaborators, while noted that parents choose most private schools because its superior standard of education compared to public institutions.

Students from various member schools captivated the audience with energetic and diverse dance performances, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the proceedings.

A pivotal moment was the Award Ceremony, where numerous members were deservedly recognized for their exceptional contributions to both the association and the broader education sector.

Barrister Stella Chibuogu Nwoche, the inaugural Chairperson of NAPPS GAC, eloquently spoke on behalf of the awardees, reiterating the profound truth that education, at its core, is a selfless service to humanity.
The event also featured a spirited “Ward Parade,” where members from different zones showcased their collective spirit and joy through synchronized dancing and spirited processions, symbolizing the unity and camaraderie within NAPPS Gwagwalada.

A Resounding Success

The Gala and Award Night culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Comrade Lawrence Omonade, who extended his appreciation to the organizers and specifically lauded Mrs. Esther Tah for her exemplary and successful leadership.

The overarching theme of the event was a powerful testament to unity, professional growth, and an unwavering
dedication to excellence in private education, leaving all attendees inspired and invigorated for the exciting new era ahead.

While the new executive team prepares to take the helm, the event underscored a collective commitment to bridging the educational gap and fulfilling the potential of every Nigerian learner.
