Minister mourns, describes AMAA founder positive force in Creative Industry

Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has mourned the death of the Africa Movie Academy Awards’ Founder, Ms. Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, saying she was a strong and positive force in the nation’s Creative Industry.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Alhaji Mohammed said he was shocked and saddened by the passing of the creative amazon, whose contribution to entertainment industry in general and the film industry in particular is the stuff of legends.



He condoled with the family, friends and associates of the deceased, praying that God will give them strength and comfort and also grant repose to the soul of the departed.

Alhaji Mohammed said the best tribute that can be paid to the deceased is to keep her dream alive through the sustenance of her much-acclaimed project, the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

The founder of the African Movie Academy Awards, Peace Anyiam- Osigwe was reportedly to have died at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos where she was hospitalized over the weekend, while confirmation of her death came from several of her associates.



Before her death, Peace, from the notable Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe family in Nkwerre, Imo State, southeast Nigeria, had a degree in Law and political science from Oxford Brookes University but the allure of film made her abandon the legal profession for the world of make belief.

The late AMAA Founder pioneered the screening of Nollywood films at international film festivals and what most people do not know is that she directed the first music video of hip-hop sensation, P-Square In 2012.

Peace Anyiam Osigwe was bestowed a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to the entertainment industry.
