The Nigerian medical community and diaspora are mourning the sudden
passing of Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani, a dedicated US-based physician, who tragically died while on a medical mission in Abia State.

Dr Nwaubani’s death, which occurred on April 19, 2026, has been described as a profound loss by officials and colleagues.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), expressed deep shock over Dr. Nwaubani’s demise.

In a statement released by Abdur- Rahman Balogun, NIDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols,
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted Dr. Nwaubani’s unwavering commitment to giving back to her homeland.

“Late Dr. Nwaubani was a very passionate and dedicated member of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in Americas (ANPA), always eager to give back through medical missions and outreaches,” the statement read.

Dr. Nwaubani, a board-certified urogynecologist and obstetrician- gynecologist based in Wildwood, Florida, was in Abia State as part of a medical outreach organized by ANPA.
The mission, which ran from April 13 to April 17, 2026, aimed to provide free medical services to underserved communities.

She was accompanied on this noble endeavor by her husband, a native of Abia State, and her daughter, who is a final-year medical student in the United
States.

Tragedy struck when Dr. Nwaubani experienced a sudden medical emergency during the mission.
Despite the valiant efforts of a combined team of highly skilled ANPA and local
doctors, she could not be resuscitated.

Dr Nwaubani’s passing has cast a somber shadow over the otherwise impactful medical outreach.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti also conveyed his profound sorrow, praising Dr. Nwaubani’s decision to volunteer her expertise.
“She had returned from the United States with her husband and her daughter to offer medical expertise free of charge to citizens of our dear state, a sacrifice that marks her out as a compassionate and exemplary medical practitioner,” Gov Otti stated.

He extended condolences to her family and the ANPA.leadership, pledging his administration’s support during this difficult time.

Remarkably, the medical mission continued at the request of her family and ANPA, a testament to Dr Nwaubani’s spirit of service.
Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani obtained her medical degree from the University of Nigeria Faculty of Medicine in 1995.

She was the founder of the Nwaubani Urogynecology and Women’s Academy (NUWA World) in Wildwood, Florida, specializing in female pelvic medicine, reconstructive surgery, and women’s wellness.

With over two decades of practice and
double board certifications, she was also recognized for her extensive community service and philanthropic work in Nigeria, having received a chieftaincy title.
