In the tumultuous landscape of the Effium-Ezza Effium communal conflict, a dark chapter unfolded on November 3, 2021, with the tragic disappearance and subsequent deaths of engineers from NELAN Consulting Engineers.

This devastating event plunged families into profound grief, yet amidst the chaos, one figure stood resolute: Senator Engr. David Umahi, then Governor of Ebonyi State. Upon receiving news of the incident, did not hesitate.

Recognizing the immense pain and the state’s responsibility, he immediately mobilized security agencies, launching an intensive search and investigation.

Umahi’s commitment transcended mere administrative duty; he personally visited the incident site with security operatives, directly engaging in the search efforts.

This hands-on approach underscored his unwavering resolve to uncover the truth and ensure justice, refusing to let the matter be dismissed or overlooked.

These diligent efforts under Governor Umahi’s leadership yielded critical results. Individuals involved in the heinous act were apprehended, and their confessions led to their continued custody.
The judicial process, initiated during his tenure, remains active in court, a testament to the enduring pursuit of justice that began under his watch.

This continuity highlights that the govt, guided by the then Governor, neither abandoned the case nor suppressed information.

Instead, swift investigative actions were taken, arrests were made, and the perpetrators were duly handed over to the justice system.

Now, as the Minister of Works, Senator Umahi continues to express profound sympathy for the grieving families, according to the statement released.
He acknowledges the deep sorrow caused by the communal violence in Effium, which tragically claimed many innocent lives, including the NELAN engineers.

Umahi’s tireless efforts as the Governor were dedicated to restoring peace and addressing the conflict that had ravaged the area.

While empathizing with the families’ enduring pain, the Minister stresses the importance of public discourse being anchored in facts and respecting the ongoing judicial process.

Senator Engr. David Umahi remains steadfast in his commitment to justice, truth, and the rule of law, offering continuous prayers for the departed souls and strength for their families.
