The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is spearheading a
transformative initiative to build a robust Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in Nigeria, promising enhanced governance, improved public services, and bolstered national security.

This strategic drive, articulated by NIMC DG/CEO Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote,
underscores the nation’s commitment to a digitally empowered future.

Represented by Mr. Sulaiman Falade, Head of Infrastructure Technology and Identity Databases (IT/IDD), Engr. Coker- Odusote highlighted NIMC’s pivotal role in “Building Africa’s Digital Foundations Together” at a recent Abuja conference.

The core of this transformation lies in the National Identification Number (NIN), which is rapidly becoming cornerstone for digital authentication, identity verification, and seamless access to both government and private sector services.

A Presidential Directive issued on April 5, 2024, has further solidified the NIN’s importance, mandating Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate its effective use into policies concerning data capture, identity verification, and biometric authentication across all digital services.
In a statement released, the Commission has already established the necessary frameworks to ensure this directive’s successful implementation.

Engr. Coker-Odusote emphasized the Federal Government’s overarching vision: to create a unified, secure, interoperable digital identity ecosystem.

This ecosystem is designed to foster transparency, accountability, and the effortless access to essential services for all citizens and residents.
By integrating digital identity systems and deploying the National Public Key
Infrastructure (nPKI), Nigeria is actively strengthen trust in digital transactions, safeguarding citizens’ data, promoting secure online interactions.

NIMC, as the primary driver of this DPI, is committed to leveraging technology and
innovation to build a more connected, efficient, and resilient nation.

Stakeholders across both public and private sectors are encouraged to support these initiatives, ultimately
improving service delivery outcomes for all Nigerians.
