The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed has advised Account Officers in the Scheme to ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions.

General Ahmed stated this on Monday in his address at the 2023 Finance and Accounts Officers’ Workshop with theme; “Achieving Accountability and Transparency in Public Sector Accounting Through Proper Documentation”, held in Abuja.

According to the statement released, the DG said account officers are also expected to guard their log in details and uphold the virtue of dedication, diligence and higher responsibility.

He added that, in line with one of his administration’s policy thrust, the Scheme would continue to provide conducive environments in the discharge of their official responsibilities.

The Director General, who was represented at the workshop by the Director, Ventures Management Department, Prince Mohammed Momoh urged the workshop participants to rededicate themselves to achieve excellence in the discharge of their duties.

In his address, the Acting Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr Batan Akut said proper accountability cannot be overemphasized because it is pivotal to foster trust and credibility in public sector accounting.

He stated further that documentation not only upholds ethical standards, but also promotes responsible governance.

“Through meticulous record keeping, the public gains insight into how funds are allocated and utilized, fostering confidence in the administration’s stewardship.

Transparency in documenting financial activities bolsters accountability, prevents mismanagement, corruption and ultimately ensuring that public resources are judiciously utilized for the collective welfare and development of the society”, Akut said.

He therefore urged the workshop participants to utilize the opportunity of the lectures from the invited resource persons to broaden their knowledge.

In his lecture, Mr Salawu Zubairu, from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, who spoke on “Financial Regulation as a Guiding Framework for Documentation of Financial Transactions in Public Sector”, urged the Finance and Account Officers to always comply with the extant laws and government regulations.

He said internal audit observation is very necessary, adding that improper documentation in all financial transactions can lead to unpleasant consequences.

In another lecture, titled; “The Auditors Perspective on Documentation of Financial Transactions in the Public Sector, Mr Obonyano Consider, from the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation advised the participants to be more professional in the discharge of their duties.
