The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to look beyond their monthly allowances and develop multiple legitimate sources of income.
Nafiu gave the advice while addressing 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Anambra State.
He encouraged the corps members to use their service year to acquire practical skills, build valuable relationships and identify opportunities that could strengthen their financial future.
According to him, depending on a single source of income may not be enough to meet daily needs, making it necessary for young people to explore additional avenues for financial growth.
“Open your eyes, make friends and leverage comparative advantage. Buy shares for long-term investments,” he said.
The NYSC Director-General also urged the corps members to remain diligent, contribute meaningfully to their host communities and take pride in the teaching profession by imparting knowledge to the people they serve.
He advised them to build relationships that would last beyond the service year and use their networks to create opportunities for themselves and others.
In her camp situation report, the NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, disclosed that 1,623 corps members had been registered for the orientation exercise.
Ojisua described them as disciplined, cooperative and supportive, noting that they had volunteered to serve on various committees and contributed positively to the smooth running of the camp.
She appreciated Nafiu for visiting the camp, describing his presence as a source of encouragement to corps members and camp officials.
