The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of 16 Corps Members abducted in Kogi State on August 26, 2026.
The Corps Members were travelling from the Bayelsa State Orientation Camp to Abuja for relocation after completing their orientation course when they were abducted.
Following coordinated search-and-rescue operations, they were recovered safely and are reportedly in high spirits.
In a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Kogi State vigilante groups and other personnel involved in the operation.
The Scheme described the agencies’ professionalism, courage, commitment and coordination as instrumental to the successful rescue.
It also acknowledged the support of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as the contributions of the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Youth Development.
The NYSC expressed appreciation to the families of the affected Corps Members for their patience and cooperation, while also commending the media for reporting the incident responsibly without jeopardising the safety of those in captivity.
According to the Scheme, the rescued Corps Members are eager to resume at their respective places of primary assignment.
The NYSC said it would continue to support them as they recover from the traumatic experience.
Management further assured Corps Members and their families that lessons from the incident would inform a review of existing safety protocols and the strengthening of protective measures nationwide.
