As the global community commemorates World Environment Day on June 5, 2026, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District, has issued a strategic call to action for citizens to adopt sustainable environmental practices.
Amidst escalating global climate concerns, Amb. Ajadi emphasized that individual and collective responsibility is paramount to safe- guarding the ecological future of the State.
The Urgency of Climate Action
Amb. Ajadi underscored the severe consequences of climate change, urging constituents to remain vigilant and proactive.
He highlighted that the 2026 theme,
“Climate Action,” serves as a moral imperative for individuals, institutions, and governments to implement decisive measures.
Failure to address these challenges, the Oyo Central Senatorial Candidate warned, could lead to disastrous environmental and socio-economic outcomes for the region
Strategic Recommendations for Sustainability
In his personal statement, Ajadi pointed to meteorological forecasts predicting heavy rainfall for the current year.
He advised that the non-blockage of drainages and the cessation of indiscriminate waste disposal must be treated with utmost seriousness to
prevent infrastructure damage and health crises.
“I urge my constituents to adopt sustainable habits such as proper waste disposal, tree planting, reduction of pollution, and promoting cleaner and greener environments.
“Preserving the environment is essential now to safeguard the planet and boost public health, thereby ensuring food security and protecting biodiversity for generations yet unborn.”
Collaborative Governance and Advocacy
The Ambassador called upon a broad coalition of stakeholders—including political leaders, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and youth groups—to champion environmental advocacy.
By integrating sustainability into the core values of community life, Ajadi believes Oyo State can build resilience against the signals being sent by the planet.
World Environment Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, remains the principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
This year’s global host, the Republic of Azerbaijan, focuses on the humanity’s response to climate signals, a theme that resonates deeply with the local
challenges faced in Oyo State.
