Residents, businesses, and public facilities across Akwanga, Nasarawa, and surroundings are set to experience temporary power interruptions as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes scheduled maintenance on critical power infrastructure.

The maintenance operations are focused on the 40MVA 132/33kV Transformer TR1 at the Akwanga 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

According to an official press release issued by TCN management, the exercise is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, 7th August 2026, and will run continuously until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 8th August 2026.

This technical overhaul is a coordinated effort between the Transmission Company of Nigeria, acting as the operator, and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), its
primary distribution partner.

During this 30-hour maintenance window, the AEDC will be temporarily unable to off-take bulk electricity supply from the affected transformer.

Consequently, electricity distribution to end-users in Akwanga, Nasarawa and its environs, the local Water Board, and surrounding areas will be suspended.

TCN management has expressed regret over any inconvenience the temporary outage may cause residents and commercial operators.

Emphasizing the long-term benefits of the exercise, the company noted that the overhaul is vital to enhancing the overall reliability of the transmission grid and ensuring a more stable, robust bulk power supply upon completion.

Customers in the affected regions are encouraged to plan accordingly and exercise patience as engineering crews work to complete the upgrade safely and efficiently.
