The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has paid ₦3.82 billion in outstanding pension arrears to 30,356 retirees under Nigeria’s Defined Benefit Scheme.
The disbursement follows PTAD’s Back-End Computation (BEC) Review Exercise, launched to investigate and resolve complaints involving pension calculations and unpaid entitlements.
Beneficiaries were drawn from the Parastatals Pension Department, the Defunct and Transferred Agencies Pension Department, and the Tertiary, Education and Health Pension Department.
According to PTAD, the payment—totalling ₦3,817,568,592.80—represents verified arrears owed to affected pensioners.
The Directorate said the exercise reflects its broader effort to settle legitimate outstanding obligations and improve the welfare of retirees who depend on the Defined Benefit Scheme.
PTAD Executive Secretary Tolulope Odunaiya thanked the beneficiaries for their cooperation during the review process and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to making pension payments more timely, transparent and accountable.
She added that the settlement underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to resolving pension-related challenges and strengthening pension administration under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
PTAD said it would continue engaging with pensioners, addressing complaints promptly and improving the efficiency and accountability of pension administration.
