President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions worldwide, including significant appointments to the United Nations and Mexico.

This strategic move, announced on March 6 via a State House statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, aims to bolster Nigeria’s international engagement and diplomatic presence.

The comprehensive list of postings comprises 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats, all of whom received confirmation from the Nigerian Senate in December.

Among the most prominent appointments, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has been designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, a pivotal role in global diplomacy.

Concurrently, former presidential aide Reno Omokri will assume the position of Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Further notable appointments include Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, who has been posted as Nigeria’s ambassador to Qatar.
Other key non-career postings feature former Aviation Minister Femi Fani- Kayode to Germany, former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau to China, and former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole to Canada.

Additionally, the list includes former Lagos Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro, assigned to Australia, and ex-Director General of the Department of State Services, Ayodele Oke, who will serve in France.

Former Senator Nora Ladi Daduut has been posted to South Korea, while former Lagos security chief Lateef Kayode Are will represent Nigeria in the United States.

In preparation for their roles, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Amb. Aminu Dalhatu, with France also approving Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The presidency has confirmed that nominations for the remaining envoys have been formally transmitted to their respective host countries, awaiting diplomatic consent, a standard international procedure.

President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promptly initiate an induction program for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners.

This program will precede their deployment, ensuring they are fully prepared to represent Nigeria effectively on the global stage.

These appointments underscored the administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic outreach and enhancing its standing in the international community.
