The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the return of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the State.
At Mushin–Agege Motor Road recently, the Governor emphasizing importance of community involvement in keeping the city clean.
This initiative will officially resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will now take place on the last Saturday of each month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
In his address, the Governor highlighted the pressing need for collective action in maintaining a clean environment.
“A cleaner Lagos starts with us—every resident must take ownership of their surroundings,” he stated.
The Governor urged every Lagosian to dedicate just two hours each month to this vital cause, reminding citizens that small, consistent actions can lead to significant change.
The initiative aims to tackle various environmental challenges, such as waste management and drainage blockages, which are often exacerbated during the rainy season.
The Governor reiterated the importance of clearing drains and disposing of waste properly, noting that these simple tasks can prevent flooding and promote public health.
The Governor’s commitment to this initiative reflects a broader vision for Lagos—a city that thrives not only in economic prosperity but also in environmental sustainability.
“We cannot wait for change to happen; we must create it together, street by street, Local Government Area by Local Government Area,” he emphasized.
To facilitate participation, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment will provide resources and support for residents, ensuring they have the tools needed for effective sanitation efforts.
Community leaders are encouraged to mobilize their neighborhoods, fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation.
In closing, the Governor expressed his confidence in the people of the State, stating, “Together, we can transform our city into a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful place for everyone. Let’s take pride in our environment and show that we care!”
