The Sierra Leonean President, Julius Maada Bio has said his country values its relationship with Republic of China and appreciates long-term assistance to Sierra Leone’s nation- building and sustainable economic development.

Bio disclosed this when the Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing called on him to present the congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China on his re-election for a second term.

He promised that his administration shall continue to strengthen mutual political trust to promote the bilateral relationship and comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership between China and Sierra Leone.

On behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone, Bio thanked President Xi Jinping for his goodwill and congratulatory message on his re-election for a second mandate to serve the people of Sierra Leone.

The President said, “China and Sierra Leone enjoys a mutually beneficial partnership of equals built on strong bonds of trust and respect”.

Chinese President, Xi Jinping has joined the growing list of global leaders extending their best wishes and congratulations to the Sierra Leonean President Bio on his re-election for a second term mandate.

In his message, Xi said that China and SierraLeone enjoy a long history of friendship, built on mutually beneficial partnerships, the President attached great importance to the development of China-Sierra Leone relations.

He also stands ready to work with President Bio to support each other work in solidarity and coordination to promote continuous development of comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Sierra Leone to benefit their people.

The Incumbent Julius Maada Bio took the Oath of Office on last week Tuesday after declared winner of Saturday’s election, reclaiming the Presidency for second term but the opposition disputed the count.

It was reported that official figures gave Mr Bio 56% of the vote. His main rival, Samura Kamara, trailed far behind with 41%, and a candidate needs more than 55% for outright victory and avoid a second round.

The Presidential vote took place amid tension but President Bio had called on Sierra Leoneans to “keep the peace”. The 59-year-old former soldier, was sworn in for his second and final five-year term.
