Tinubu, Abiodun, others consoles victims of Ibadan explosion

The Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun and others have commiserated with Government and people of Oyo State over the devastating explosion that occurred on Tuesday night in Ibadan, the State capital.

Tinubu who in a statement released by his aide on Wednesday expressed sadness while called on all concerned agencies of government to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy with alacrity.

According to him, “It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behavior that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished”.

The President, Bola Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with the Oyo State Government to offer immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims.

Ogun State Governor said on social media platforms that his administration and the people of Ogun grieve alongside government and the people of Oyo State, while extending his sympathies, described Ibadan explosion as heart-wrenching event.

He said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who mourn the loss of their beloved ones and those who suffered injuries in this catastrophic incident.

“We stand united with the resilient community of Oyo State during this trying period and vow to provide unwavering assistance in the recovery and reconstruction endeavours.

Abiodun noted that the prompt reaction of the state government under the leadership of his dear brother, Seyi makinde, undoubtedly played a crucial role in preserving more lives, and such commendable actions deserve recognition.

The Governor prayed that the souls of the departed find eternal peace, while the wounded ones gather the strength and solace they need to heal. “Together, we shall surmount this tragedy and emerge fortified, united in spirit”, Abiodun said.

The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar also expressed his condolences to the good people and government of Oyo State over the explosion that rocked the capital city of Ibadan late yesterday night.

The 2023 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate hailed government for providing humanitarian support to victims of the explosion, commiserated with families of those who might have lost their lives and property to the explosion.

Also, Nollywood Actress, Funke Akindele on her social media platform said, “My deepest condolences to everyone affected by the explosion in Ibadan.

“What I have seen since last night is beyond words, and I pray that God gives everyone affected fortitude to bear this unimaginable loss. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time and I hope you find the strength and healing you need in the days ahead”.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde after visiting the scene confirmed two fatalities and 77 people were injured to the explosion which occurred at about 7.44 pm yesterday, 16 January 2024 in Bodija, Ibadan, the state capital.

Makinde explained that preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices which might cause the blast, vowed that all those found culpable for this will be brought to book.
