Former Nigerian Senate President, Ibrahim Lawan has said the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court affirmed confidence in February election process and the nation’s judiciary.

Lawan who disclosed this in his congratulatory message to the President and his Vice, Kashim Shettima commended the panel for its resolute, firm posture in ensuring that its judgement was guided by the facts available before the court as against unsubstantiated claims.

Recall On Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Court affirmed Tinubu as validly elected President of Nigeria, after dismissing the petition of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party’s Peter Obi and the All Peoples Movement (APM).

Haruna Tsammani, the head of the five-member panel of the court who delivered the lead judgement which was aimed at the credibility of the 25 February presidential election, to be dismissed by the court in its record 12 hour- long judgement.

Lawan said, “The PEPC judgment sends a clear message to politicians that the judiciary understands its limit and refuses to be an arbiter on matters within the jurisdiction of political parties.

Adding that, “the decision by candidates of some political parties to contest the outcome of the 2023 Presidential election, provided the opportunity to test the provisions of the Electoral Act passed by the 9th Assembly, in a way that further  deepens our nation’s democratic processes.

“Efforts must, accordingly, be made by the 10th Assembly to consolidate on the gains of the Electoral Act by ensuring further amendments to the law, in a bid strengthen the Independent National Electoral Commission and our electoral processes”, Lawan said.

The former Senate President urged the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party and the Labour Party, to join forces with the Tinubu-led administration in delivering good governance to Nigerians.
