United Kingdom Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has hailed Israel’s decision on opening up aid access to Gaza which was announced yesterday.
Sunak who applauded this announcement when met with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed the deep condolences of the British people for the terrible loss of life that has occurred in Israel.
Sunak emphasised the importance of establishing sustained access to get more vital food, water, medicine and fuel into Gaza and to enable British nationals trapped there to leave.
He underscored the UK’s firm belief in Israel’s right to self-defence in accordance with international humanitarian law, as they work to end the threat of Hamas and secure the freedom of hundreds of Israeli hostages.
The Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister Netanyahu for his support for the British nationals who have been taken by Hamas and both leaders agreed to work closely together to secure their freedom.
UK’s Sunak and his counterpart from Israel underscored the need to prevent any regional escalation in the conflict and the importance of restoring peace and stability to the region.
The UK Prime Minister who is Israel on solidarity visit met with President Isaac Herzog and conveyed his gratitude for the support provided to British nationals caught up in the terror attacks while both agreed on the importance of getting urgent humanitarian support to ordinary Palestinians in Gaza who are also suffering.
The Israeli President thanked the Prime Minister of United Kingdom for coming to Israel and for your support and firm stand by the Israeli people, he said, “During such difficult days, we see clearly who are the true friends of the State of Israel.
Adding that this is the time to express a clear moral voice, a battle for the values of all humanity, saying the world needs to understand that if Israel do not prevent Hamas and other terrorist organizations from carrying out murderous and criminal attacks – they will not stop with Israel.
Meanwhile, Egypt has agreed to reopen its border crossing with the Gaza Strip to allow aid to reach Palestinians, the United States said, as the humanitarian crisis worsened for the 2.3 million people trapped in the enclave and anti-Israel protests flared across the Middle East.
